Sonic Producer is part of the new trend for online beat maker software. For years, making Hip Hop and Rap Beats was a big studio job. Then, computer got pretty powerful, pretty quickly, so anyone with a few thousand bucks could make tracks that could compete with the big studios.
Now, the beat making process has opened up even further. You don’t need a big studio and you don’t need thousands to spend on software and computer equipment. With a modern beat maker, you can do it all on your average PC, at home, without a music qualification or a team of scientists to get you through the manual.
It’s a beat making revolution, so you probably want to get in on it, right? Is Sonic Producer the way to go though?
The first thing you’ll notice about Sonic Producer is the simple interface. If you have any experience with music software or hardware, and even if you don’t, it’s probably not going to take you long to get going. Expect to be making beats within an hour or so, realistically.
If you’re new to beat making the site has plenty of tutorials to get you moving. You should make the most of this, along with the community vibe, where there are tutorials on all aspects of beat making.
Then you’ve got the sounds. You’ve got over 2000 sounds at your disposal, an armory ready to compose your beats. The sounds are fresh and avoid some of the more played out examples seen in some other sample libraries.
It’s good to have some inspiring jumping off points for your beats; because you know that time spent trying to dig up samples is time you’re not making beats.
And once you’ve made your beat, Sonic Producer lets you output your beat in an MP3 format, so you can share it through the internet or with friends/rappers etc.
All in all, Sonic Producer is a solid piece of beat making software. It’s also perfectly suited to getting started if you’re a total newcomer to beat making. It’s also one of the longest standing pieces of specialized beat making software out there, so it’s been tested to death by now.
Sonic Producer is worth checking out but there’s also a newer contender on the block, called Dub Turbo, which I think might now have the edge, especially if you have a little knowledge on beat making.
Sonic Producer’s good but Dub Turbo’s got a little bit more flexibility with arrangements, but the killer hook is the fact that it outputs high quality WAV files, rather than MP3s. Keep in mind that MP3s compress the sound, so you lose a little detail.
I think the best thing to do is to check out Sonic Producer and Dub Turbo, to find out which is better for your needs. My call is that Sonic Producer would suit people who are new to the beat making game better, but you’ll learn more and get more long term with Dub Turbo.
Either way, get out there and make some tight beats!
